The National - "Fake Empire"

it's rare that we go in for music writers' analogies, but J. Edward Keyes hit the nail right on the head about the National, describing their most recent album Boxer as "a tiny, subtle diamond in a field of ten-foot neon exclamation points." There's more sweep and beauty in the National's music than we'd guess most people expect from pop anymore, and we're glad to see them get a video.

Especially this video. The photography alone is worth your time, but Scott Cudmore's decision to keep every frame beautiful and heavy pays off in the biggest way. It's one of the first videos we've seen in a long time that makes us long for the days of videos you could watch on TV.
